Indeed a good article - I am never sure why we have to limit ourselves to thinking of a particular time in Jack's career, and I have been a fan so long, I often change my mind on what "I" want to defend ... The Pledge was sadly under-rated, as was Hoffa - along with the Passenger - these are three of my favorites, because Nicholson is not "baby seal slick and no wolfish grin." He is indeed human. I hope we get to see him on screen again soon....

I will defend The Two Jakes to my dying day. Way underrated. It's reputation should be similar to Godfather III (i.e. 'Not a classic, but still quite good'), but somehow it's been dismissed as just plain bad all these years.

The Pledge is great work from Nicholson and Penn. Mickey Rourke's cameo is also fantastic stuff.

Truly underrated work. It was so subtle that it's no wonder why the academy snubbed it.

I think there needs to be a correction in your article. It was not a 15 year working relationship gap between "The Postman Always Rings Twice" and "Blood+Wine" because Nicholson worked with Rafelson on the very odd "Man Trouble" in 1992. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_Trouble/
