About the Devil in the White city a very very cool read , Tom Cruise was attached all those years ago when the book was first released. Not sure if he was to play Holmes or Burnham though, I'd still love to see it made. Jimmy Corrigan is a nice companion piece whilst listening to Sufjan's illinois.

Wasn't Zodiac a co-production with WB and Paramount, so he did back-to-back projects with Zodiac and then Ben Button.

Musicals would not be a strange match for Fincher. It is how he started. Ever see a little video called "Vogue" that he directed for Madonna? And as for his love of Fosse, check out another Fincher classic, Paula Abdul's "Cold Hearted."

Would love to see a Torso movie. It's an incredible little piece of true crime history (he was arguably the second recorded serial killer in US history, after Dr. H.H. Holmes at the Chicago World's Fair), I even did a report on the guy in 10th grade.

Speaking of Holmes, I suppose we'll never see a film version of The Devil in the White City, the fantastic book dealing with the creation of the World's Fair in 1893, contrasted with Holmes's killing spree. One of my all-time favorite books, period.

One more: In the early 2000s, Fincher worked with James Ellroy and screenwriter Josh Friedman on an adaptation of The Black Dahlia before the plug was pulled and De Palma shat out his own mess. This is why Ellroy appears on the Zodiac commentary.
