Yes La Belle et le La BÃªte 1946 is one of my favorite films. I caught it a few years ago on TCM and was blown away by it. I would also say The Neverending Story (the first one) I watched it all the time as a kid and I still love it. I also want to recommend Rusalochka The little mermaid a Russian film made in 1976 and for the most part it stays true to Hans Christian Andersen tale. I saw it a long time ago and I watched it with English subtitles. Ive also always enjoyed the Return to Oz even though the wheelers scared me.

Beauty & the Beast is, of course, a classic. It's a tremendous film. The Beast's costume looks a bit goofy by modern standards, but that doesn't detract much from the film. Pan's Labyrinth is excellent, though it doesn't hold up as well on repeated viewings. The other's you mentioned I liked, but I wouldn't rave about them. Jacques Demy's Peau d'Ane is a worthy inclusion. I loved Jaromil Jires' Valerie and Her Week, and The Company of Wolves was clearly inspired by it. The Thief of Bagdad could reasonably be called a fairy tale, and it's quite good. While they aren't live action and one could debate how much they qualify as "fairy tales", but I would include a few of Miyazaki's films like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.

The Neverending Story (only the first, the others are awful) is one of the best family films, and has more layers to it than people give credit (just look at the nihilistic giant tortoise!)

Not much a Del Toro fan myself, but the 4 others really are must-see movies … kudos for that list, I now have to dig in my video collection. Starting with The company of wolves I guess, gosh what an amazing movie !
