From that list, i could see Matt Reeves doing it as well as David Slade. Some good considerations from talented directors. I think it would be good if they got a japanese director to do it, because it would make the story feel more japanese in terms of shooting.

Not that I would lobby for him, but what about David Goyer? Surely the Man of Steel Script is done by now and he could focus on directing Wolverine.

Brad Bird and Christopher McQuarrie could be possibles.

But if Doug Liman isn\’t busy, and according to IMDB, he\’s not, why not give him a shot at it?

Takeshi Kitano? Did you just list him because he\’s the most well-known Japanese director in the west? You might as well hire Werner Herzog. There is nothing in Kitano\’s filmography that would suggest he\’d be the right fit. And no, Zatoichi doesn\’t count. I love Kitano and a superhero film directed by him would be…interesting but probably not the kind of movie anyone is looking for, be they studio heads or fanboys.
If we\’re on the subject of Asian directors might as well bring up the reigning king of Hong Kong cinema, Johnnie To. If you want a fresh take on the superhero genre I can\’t think of a better choice. Of course To is so busy I doubt that he has the time, much less the desire to go Hollywood when he can do anything he wants in HK.
In terms of more realistic choices I\’m surprised that Matthew Vaughn hasn\’t been brought up. I\’m assuming that Fox is reasonably happy with what he did on First Class . I know he has Kick Ass 2 lined up but I imagine that he\’ll be offered it regardless. Right now I think that Duncan Jones is the best people can hope for. I\’ve read that he\’s a self-proclaimed geek so he may just jump at the chance to helm Wolverine, even if he has to pick up Arronofsky\’s scraps.

Let The Right One In seemed like the same movie but with a bigger budget. All the money shots were basically lifted exactly the same from the original.

I\’m just afraid Jackman will chose a buddy of his. Someone like Stephen Sommers or Dominic Sena.

How bout Fernando Meirelles? He\’s probably working on 360 but he can handle big action pics.

G. del Toro? Danny Boyle? Alfonso Cuaron? Miguel Sapochnik? Wilson Yip? Fuck it, Ben Affleck?

It\’ll probably be someone like the person doing the Planet of the Apes reboot, but one could hope for someone with a bit more of a track record and perhaps a tad idiosyncratic.

Fox is releasing Thomas McCarthy\’s new film, and he did direct the Game of Thrones pilot, so he\’s not closed to genre, for-hire work ovearseas (IIRC it was shot in New Zealand). Todd Field has had too many projects fall by the way side — it would be nice to see something put his name on the map again.

I think Debra Granik could work very well in the framework of a tentpole, and it would be nice to see a female direct one of these expensive superhero films.

Thomas McCarthy\’s work on \”Game Of Thrones\” was reshot — he is not credited on the upcoming episodes and he\’s working on a project for Pixar right now.

Todd Field and Debra Granik are great wishlist choices but never gonna happen. Fox needs helmers comfortable with FX with geek cred.

Jonathan Nolan is wanting to make the leap. He has a working relationship with Jackman from The Prestige and the studio could get him for a bargain price. Plus, studio could promote as \”From the creator of Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises\”.

I\’d personally like to see Brad Anderson play with some money, but his latest probably isn\’t going to inspire confidence.
