why all obvious choices with history in action movies?de palma,j.j. nore bird were not obvious,action directors.
while ill agree about matt reeves i will say that my 3 choices right now would be guys who did 21 jump street,rian johnson and drew goddard.
but next m:i is at leist 3 years away from filming so who knows who might show up by then.

My 3 picks would be

Kathryn Bigelow
Edgar Wright
Nic wending Refn

Bigelow can do it, and put the "Hurt Locker" touch to it. Wright is an inspired choice. i expect a fun thrill ride like Bird did with 4(maybe wackier). Refn is so bad-ass but his films are slow(this is not a criticism). Paramount and MI audiences won't go for it. though his new film seems to be a change of pace as the reports say(fast paced action film).

if Wright does it, it would be Wackier and really really fun. oh and i agree with the Chris Nolan and Jim Cameron not doing this. A list filmmakers does MI even if it's a sort of sequel(you know what i mean). but those directors don't have Franchises with them. Nolan already has Batman movies. he wants to do his own stories outside of that Comic book picture

"Lockout" was "surprisingly well-received"? 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, 48 on MetaCritic….hardly "well-received." I mean, every movie has a stable of defenders, so I'm sure you can find a contingent of people impressed by it. But let's not pretend that it got strong reviews overall.
