I feel like The majority of theater-goers with franchise/blockbuster leaning tastes don't pay attention to bad buzz generated from fucking Vanity Fair articles and blogs, which is why it's easier for tentpoles to skate by and recover from this kind of thing that it is for indies. It's also one reason why the studio system will forever continue the formulaic trajectory, because it adds up and there's a certain amount of predictability which gives the illusion of control

Useful article, though I have to note that in "Gangster Squad's" defense, the reshoots were due to outside events (the shooting at Sandy Hook) affecting how people thought the movie would be received, not due to any problems with the making of the film itself.

One note: There are a lot of grammar errors in this article. Copy editor? There's weird tense shifts from present to past all over the place.

"admittedly, this is total greenhorne move"–this is A total greenhorn (no E) move, principAL photography, and the specific complaint against Hurlbut isn't that he was on set–DPs are *always* on set–but that he moved into Bale's eyeline after Bale had requested multiple times that he not do that. Bale was totally out of line nonetheless, but it's an important distinction, because complaining about a DP being on set wouldn't make any sense.
