He deserves to get a nomination, but let's face it: he won't. It's a genre movie that came out in January. As great a performance as it was, he's most likely going to be snubbed.

Considering that Robert Pattinson won the ICS award for Best Actor at Cannes (a group of 100 critics who disagreed with the Cannes jury) and also won the IndieWire Critics Poll for best performance (by an actor or an actress in a landslide), it's mighty odd that he isn't in the "Likely" category.

It wasn't just critics who thought his performance was the best. After the premiere, the film received a six-minute standing ovation, the longest of any film premiering at the festival (I believe). He also turned in an awards-worthy performance in The Lost City of Z, which is turning up on many "Best of 2017 so far" lists. His supporting performance was rated the best in the film by many critics. He's on a roll and his talent is being recognized right and left, which makes it very strange that he is in the wrong category on this list and not even mentioned on the Best Supporting Actor page. People are noticing.

Is this a joke!....you haven't mentioned James McAvoy who produced one of the most exciting and unpredictable performances that cinema has seen in years, so much so that it topped the US box office for an incredible 3 weeks! And he doesn't even get a mention here, shocking!

Interesting that The Playlist has chosen to totally ignore the Oscar talk that was buzzing through "SXSW" about James Franco's performance in "The Disaster Artist". Yes, it's a long shot, but it should still be mentioned - Hollyweird has always loved to shower kudos on films about the film industry...and like it or not, "The Room" is part of that industry, Tommy Wiseau is an oddball legend, and Franco's portrayal of him received raves. And A24 has chosen release in December, smack in the middle of awards season - they obviously smell something in this film that many do not...and given their recent track record, I'll put my money on them before any Oscar Prognosticators...:-)
