Wow, I would have watched the broadcast just for the "See you again" moment… unreal that when an actual GOOD song is there… they leave it out… it was essentially a tribute to both a movie character and an actor… nuts to the academy… did they get anything right this year?

Straight Out of Compton was a huge disappoint in the nomination aspect. I thought best Picture and best director would have been at least on the ballot for this film. I can understand why they wouldn\’t get any acting noms even though there were great performances all around, it\’s hard to pick out of an ensemble piece like this one.

Also Hateful should have gotten a best original screenplay nod. ctor but screenplay for sure.maybe not best dire

I don\’t know if See You Again is an awful song, or if it just seems awful because Wiz Khalifa is such a terrible rapper. Either way, it didn\’t deserve a nomination. So thank God!

"How long do we give it before Tarantino starts dissing “Brooklyn” and “Room” as "women’s movies," or calls “Spotlight” an HBO drama?" The purpose of this piece seems to be describing shocks, snubs and surprises from this year\’s nominations, but there is a difference between having a dialogue about the nominations and rabble-rousing. Sure, Tarantino has spoken out in the past about films like SELMA and does he toot his own horn a little too much sometimes? Oh yes. But give him a chance. The above quote distracts from the overall purpose of the article and borders on the rabble-rousing b.s. that makes up many a lesser film blog or social media account. Instead of calling it before it even happens, give the benefit of the doubt and don\’t jump to conclusions. Perhaps I\’ll end up eating my words completely some time in the next year (or a few, who knows), but don\’t jump to conclusions just yet. That\’s not what you guys are about.

Brooklyn and Room ARE women\’s films, but they are ALSO two of the 8-10 best movies made this year. They deserve the nominations. As for Straight Outta Compton while good I wouldn\’t even put it in the best 15-20 movies so regardless of race issues its a no brainer it wasn\’t nominated best picture. HOWEVER, Idris Elba not being nominated is beyond criminal it\’s unforgivable. I suspect they didn\’t even watch it.

Considering the numbers that Straight Outta Compton did, I would be really curious to see the breakdown of the demographics who went to see it, including who did repeat viewings.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:

I have to agree with this writer. Straight Outta Compton being left out of best picture was & is just criminal!

Best Foreign Film: Baba Joon out of Israel. It was superb & has rave reviews across the board.

Best Actor: Idris Elba. Like what in the F?! He was marvelous & spectacular. Him being left out is absurd. And simply b.s. Smh.

Can I just throw out there that my biggest disappointment with the nominations this year is the absence of Meru from the documentary list. By what merits do we judge a movie, particularly a documentary? I just can\’t wrap my head around any reason why Meru would have been ignored.

I thought this year\’s nominees were not as strong as years before. I\’d personally have only nominated three of the eight that were nominated: Spotlight, Brooklyn and The Revenant.
