Shows you how good you are in predictions. Sherlock Holmes2 has now grossed $335M total
and it has not even opened up in 25 big markets like China, Japan and France. It's domestic is now 157M and will probably top 190M easily getting to 500M overall. I will hardly call that disappointing.

**@RESPLENDENT Did you really just put The Muppets in the same sentence as the smurfs, and the chipmunks.**

Yeah, you're right, they don't belong there. The Smurfs and the Chipmunks movies made money.

** First off, The Muppets are on a whole other level when it comes to humour, heart etc.**

Sez you. Audiences apparently don't agree

**Second of all Muppets is sitting at $85,852,318 worldwide, $45 million to make, dvd sales I almost guarantee will get them another 15 - 20 million.**

Chump change. The Muppets movie has is still a long long way from making a profit.

**Did smurfs and crapmunks make more money, yes. does this than mean The Muppets are a flop, not even close. **

It's a disappointment. Same difference as far as Disney is concerned.

**The muppets will have an almost double ROI. I don't know about you but most people would consider that a success.**

Only ignorant neophytes like you who don't understand Hollywood budgeting and profit margins.

Yep, the Muppets is pretty much a wash at this point. Disney made a bad investment. What does it do with Kermie now - shove him back in the sock drawer?

And Dommy - don't be ridiculous. Disney used this movie as a test - to see if the Muppets could be revived like the Smurfs, and they failed, bigtime. Your assessments are bogus, dude. Deal with it - the Muppets tanked.

too many movies...bad scripts...and too big of a budget...they should go less films, more thought out stories (more time in the incubator), and less costly productions.....play the numbers, people will still watch movies, spend less on them and the numbers will take care of the rest...

Great article- but as much as I love the film- financially HUGO is setting up to be one of the largest flops of the year. A budget rumored to be north of $170 million (without marketing taken into account) & the it looks like the film won't even cross $50 million domestic.

muppet comment is silly... it'll be at mid 80's by the end of the holidays and slowly inch up to 90 million. that will make is the second most popular muppet film in ticket sales behind the original.

if anyone said a muppet film would make 90 million a few years ago you wouldn't believe them

and in comparison to hugo, arthurs xmas, happy feet 2 it did great for a much lower budget.

and the point is also to bring the muppets back for merchandising and having a live franchise and they totally accomplished that

i think they were looking at a more enchanted type of box office here... but 90 is pretty good.

"People won't pay to see Fat Damon." What genius predicted that? Oh yeah... ME! Once again my uncanny insight into the hearts and minds of the ticket-buying audience proves true. Nobody likes seeing their stars looking fat and frumpy. Superstars must look superhumanly great. Otherwise, they are just background character actors being given too much face time. Recipe for failure.
