In reply to RdWd. The Fountain is in my Top Five Favorite Films of All Time - it is a movie that makes you feel and think. And the score is TRANSCENDANT.

In reply to StewartJenkins. The Fountain's excellent. Another one that critics were divided on though. Leans somewhat towards 'science fantasy'. I'd say it was Aronofsky's most vidsually ambitious work (though NOAH had some jawdropping elements to it too)

In the Fall, Lee Pace’s character breaks his back (not his leg) and is paralyzed. It’s a pretty important detail as it’s part of the impetus for his desire to kill himself.

Where is LOTR: The Two Towers? Return of the King??? This list is also missing a handful of Pixar and Miyazaki films. Some of the films on this list aren’t even good.

I wanted to like MirrorMask so much. It has all the right elements of what should be a good film but it’s missing… something. It’s hard to articulate exactly what it is but it’s noticeable when watching it.

It’s definitely a film I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing re-done at some point in the future, with a higher budget put toward the VFX, though I know how unlikely that is to ever happen.

Great list.
But I feel there’s a lot of “big” films in it.
Any chance we might see this list but with low-budget, or more independent titles?

Also, I feel like PAN’S LABYRINTH (2006) should have been mentioned.

And if the range were broadened beyond “high fantasy”, these titles would be worthy as well:
MIDNIGHT IN PARIS (2011)
SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD (2010)
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008)
