Gran Turismo

Archie Madekwe, David Harbour, and Orlando Bloom star.

“Fremont”
Beautiful and troubled 20-something Donya, an Afghan translator who used to work with the U.S. government, has trouble sleeping. Working in a fortune cooking factory by day, she longs for connection and, through several mishaps, starts to find it in an unlikely stranger. Very Jim Jarmusch-ian in tone, but still original and fresh, director Babak Jalali’s “Fremont”  is a wry, deadpan vision of the universal longing for home (read our review). The film stars Anaita Wali Zada, Gregg Turkington, and yes, chef, “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White.
Release Date: August 25, limited via Music Box Films.

Elsewhere, there’s the Judy Greer-led picture “Aporia,” which deals with the heavy grief of losing a partner; Universal’s vampire thriller, “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” the rerelease of Park Chan-Wook’s “Oldboy,” “Retribution” with Liam Neeson and more.
