But evolving from arrogant to vigilant isn’t the only arc of a comic book character, as this essay clearly explains. He’s not saying Superman needs to be like Ironman, he’s saying Superman needs to be a fully realized character, with an arc. Struggling to understand his place in the world for 2.5 hours (5 if you count BvS) is not an arc. And it’s incredibly uninteresting. Whether that’s the fault of the writing or Henry Cavill’s performance is up for debate. Regardless, it’s clear DC isn’t doing these potentially three-dimensional characters justice.

It’s at best a dumb analogy to compare Iron man as a character to Superman.. Superman isn’t allowed to be an arrogant prick. So, Zack Snyder just tried to show a portrayal of Superman as a man struggling to understand his place in the world and ultimately chchoosing to protect us.
