It was a great Q&A last night though still puzzling why they showed The Wrestler if they were going to focus the entire Q&A on Black Swan. They should have just shown Black Swan.

I loved the Fountain, thought Wrestler was good to but am shocked by the reaction to Black Swan….I thought it was awful, most disappointing movie of the year by far. Still like Aronofsky though, I\’m excited for his take on Wolverine

I don\’t know much about this stuff, but I assume since Swan was still rolling out in theaters they probably weren\’t able to show it.

As for DA, he\’s not immature as far as I can tell. He\’s seems like a really smart, down to earth guy.

I think the real story behind that “I’m doing it because it’s probably the only way to get into the New York Film Festival.” comment is a dig at them turning down Black Swan for the NYFF after choosing The Wrestler as their Closing Night film 2 years ago.

@ D.Z. – I totally agree, I was thinking the exact same thing during the movie (and before, when the trailer first came out). As far as I know Aronofsky still owns the rights to Perfect Blue, since he bought them to replicate a scene for Requiem, and I always figured if anyone would remake it, he would. I guess, with Black Swan, he more or less did.

Increasingly otherwise good articles are ruined by throwaway asides dissing some movie the author happened to not like. \”Frost/Nixon\” was a terrific film for reasons I won\’t elaborate on here, but the remark throws me off for the rest of the read. It\’s like when authors slip in anti-Bush or anti-Obama rhetoric assuming the reader shares their political views. If you want to argue the merits of \”The Wrestler\” v. \”Frost/Nixon\”, fine. But the assumption that your readership just obviously agrees that \”Frost/Nixon\” was an undeserved nominee is a mistake.

Sorry, I don\’t think \”Frost/Nixon\” was anything else other than a snooze, and in a more generous mood I\’ll give it a \”well, it was OKAY\” shrug. But to be nominated for an Oscar, I don\’t think so. And I really don\’t think I\’m forcing my opinion on anyone by just having it in the piece.

I\’m going to come into bat here for Frost/Nixon. That\’s a great film. It\’s not as good as The Wrestler. But I\’d lose The Reader, Milk and Benjamin Button from the 2008 Oscar five before Frost/Nixon.
