Oliver, I'm disappointed that even you are saying Dallas Buyers Club is an "AIDS film." I assure you, it is not. Every film that involves HIV/AIDS as a plot-point does not make it an AIDS film. McConaughey put it simply when he said that it's a film about survival. And Leto acknowledged "the Rayons of the world" because he recognizes that his character was more than an AIDS victim. This dialogue/backlash about them not mentioning HIV/AIDS is uncalled for, and begs the question "why weren't more people upset about the tepid attention that actual AIDS films like We Were Here and How to Survive a Plague received?"

I loved the George Clooney joke, as did Sandra Bullock. Leto's speech was awful–started crude, then ended with "thanks for the inspiration" to all the Rayons out there–a little self-centered, no?

Big Jesse fan, but so glad that Aaron Paul didn't win last night; he's won for a great character arc before, but if you're going by the season in question, Jesse didn't get to do anything this season other than look at the ground, or up at a grate … he's been great for the whole entire series, but rewarding him at the end would've been wrong and transparent … he's got Emmy's though!

I dont know what home you were sitting in, but in mine and everyone in it, McConaughey's speech was the best. I mean seriously, so many talented, veteran actors were mumbling and fumbling their words around like amateurs, and here comes MM with his signature calm, collected, charismatic self accepting the award like a winner should. AND, AND, "neither of them mentioned AIDS" …? You need to re-watch I believe. "To all the Rayons of the world, thanks for the inspiration." MM spoke as to how the people involved with the film would not take no for an answer to get this story (about AIDS) told. I guess you were wanting a one man rendition of "We Are the World?"
