In reply to lostjack. You could say the very same thing about at least half the sequels on this article's list. The originals for all received generally-positive-to-mediocre reviews, but the sequels for which were totally artistically unnecessary. They were only made because the originals made money, and because Hollywood is creatively bankrupt. : P

In reply to JOsgl. I would argue that about half the movies you mentioned were sequels to big hit movies like The Hangover, Bad Boys and Transformers so in a sense they were asked for. This list seems mostly made up of sequels you personally didn't ask for.

I feel like this list could be so much longer, and that actually a more interesting listicle might be the couple dozen sequels ever made that anyone actually wanted, or was thankful for. I mean it’s so rare we all get seriously excited at the exceptions to the rule…sequels make money, sure, but how often are we genuinely happy about them?

The only thing good to come from Basic Instinct 2 was John Murphy’s music and even then, it’s far from being his best work. Otherwise, it’s one of those sequels that completely misses the point of the original film.
