i\'m sorry but i found \'winter\'s bone to be trite and unnecessarily dramatic when i saw it in the summer. sure it was well acted. it seems critics latch onto a film like this every year and carry it to the award season. unfortunately i just didn\'t like it all that much.

Major bummer about Nolan. I thought for sure it would have been his year for direction. But at least he got original screenplay, so not all bad. If not The Dark Knight Rises (it has a lot to live up to), I\'m sure his following movie will garner him a nom for directing. Like Brandt said, incredible track record.

Extremely surprised about Mark Ruffalo. Amazing in Kids Are Alright, but I still feel like his performance was underwhelming compared to Andrew Garfield and Geoffrey Rush.

However, overall I\'m very pleased with the noms. The Oscars may be gaining back more and more credibility (at least in my book).

I wasn\'t blown away by Winter\'s Bone. Pretty good film, especially towards the end, but it\'s a bit heavy handed, not to mention it always feels like a contrived, upper-middle class viewpoint of what redneck life is like. Still, I\'m glad Hawkes got nominated. Jennifer Lawrence got most of the attention because everyone is on the lookout for upcoming stars but Hawkes\' performance was far superior.
As for Dogtooth: not sure what the voting process is like for Best Foreign film. I know that the people who decide the nominees are different than the people who decide the winners. Supposedly most of the people who vote in the category are old and retired (you have to see all five films to vote, so many younger members are too busy and put priority on seeing the major categories) which explains their old-timey choices. Would be awesome if it won it but that isn\'t going to happen. It\'ll probably be the Danish film.

\'winter\'s bone\' just felt fake, forced and campy. all unintentional. i felt it was overrated the day it released. like i said the acting was superb but the story was a big zero.

\'the kings speech\' was special and as much as i want christian bale to win (mainly because his body of work is so incredible) i feel geoffrey rush gave the best supporting performance of the year.

No surprises here really other than Christopher Nolan NOT getting nominated for Best Director. What a snub! I also thought The Social Network was severely overrated and got most of its attention due to the subject matter rather than the movie as a whole. I\'m a big David Fincher fan and he\'s never let me down. Good movie but it didn\'t make my Top Ten. I thought Howl was by far the best movie of the year with its combination of animation, acting (James Franco as Allen Ginsberg), and cinematography. You can check out my list on my artist\'s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2010/12/top-10-movie-picks-of-2010.html

I agree ,jimmiescoffee, I am not fond of Winter\'s Bone and the bloodless King\'s Speech ( the worst verison of PBS\' Masterpiece Theatre) . Now, I am happy John Hawkes was nominated. He is one of the most natural and versatile actors in the business- that never gets the recognition he deserves. Hawkes constantly reminds me of Sean Penn whenever I see his wonderful performances.

I respect Mark Ruffalo , but he didn\'t deserve a nomination over Armie Hammer ( he never got the Oscar push that he deserved) or Andrew Garfield.

How the hell did Christopher Nolan not receive a director nomination ? This is beyond ridiculous ! The Academy is constantly ignoring his peerless directing talent. His track record is extraordinary- not one bad film.
