Unlike (let’s say) sci-fi or western horror is an emotion, not neccesarily a genre. And purism is dumb. The majority of films mentioned here can easily be classified as horror as far as I’m concerned, and many of them are (Jaws, Les Diaboliques, The Night Of The Hunter). According to Vincent Price and David Cronenberg Taxi Driver could be considered a horror movie. And Stephen King included films by Buñuel and Bergman on his list of favorite horror movies. And who would want to disagree with those icons of the genre, right? Genre tags are useless if they can only be applied to dumb slasher movies and teenie vampire flicks. I happen to love scary movies and I would have no problem adding Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet to this list. They’re right up there with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Romero’s original Dead-trilogy as far as I’m concerned. Make of that what you will.

“Does all this say more about me…?” Well, in that she didn’t talk about anything else. That Glamour article was the most conservative-minded, ‘Me! Me! Me!” article with absolutely no intention of answering her own question just groping around for validation. That’s the same kind of mindset that thinks comedy is worthless or that any kind of art that provokes gut reactions is not worthy.
A considered article based on bitchiness? I’m not being sarcastic – good on yer! For me… maybe ‘Come and See’. That’s a very scary film, working the threat of imminent violence right up til the last hour when the Nazis storm that village.

I’d argue ‘Requiem For A Dream’ for the last 10 minutes alone. Ellen Burstyn’s descent into insanity and Jennifer Connelly’s extremely creepy sex show, not to mention the amputation put it right up there in the Horror section.
